Hi, If you are here then I must assume that you are a dog lover as I am! Any shape, size or color is fine with me. The one thing that all pets need is LOVE
They also need training. I want to help you with the first basic training you will need for your newest member of the family and that is house training. If you follow just a few easy steps, using love and patience, you will see it does not need to be a difficult process.
1. From the very beginning pick two times a day to feed and water your puppy. Do not over feed or give him anything but “his” food. You should give him a treat and plenty of praise after going to the bathroom where you want him to go.
2. Your puppy needs to get into a schedule. Dog’s are den animals, so being enclosed in a small area like a crate is acceptable to them. It actually can make them feel safe and secure for short periods of time. I feel crate training is the easiest option to teach bathroom training. The crate should be just big enough for your puppy to stand up, turn around and lay back down. Give your puppy a soft crate pad to sleep on, then keep him in there over night. First thing in the morning and before going back into the crate take him to his area where he should be given time to “go”.
3. He should be fed the same time twice a day and then about 10 to 15 min after eating he should be taken outside or to his “potty area” Remember to reward and praise him every time he goes where he is expected until he is well trained. Do not punish him when he has an accident. He will learn what is expected of him by repetition and praise when he does it right. He will not understand aggressiveness or what he did wrong.
Most dogs do not want to relieve themselves where they sleep so if they are in the crate while you are at work and or over night they instinctively learn to hold it. Don’t forget the treat and lots of praise when he does it right , which by the way will be most all of the time after about two weeks if you are consistent.
One more tip… Stick with the same food as a change in diet can cause your little buddy to have intestinal problems!
